In  the largest study on the health of living kidney donors, researchers give the all clear. Tracking 3,700 people who had donated a kidney since 1963, they found that donors lived just as long as non-donors, and were even less likely than people generally to end up needing dialysis or a kidney transplant (in part because their kidney function had been checked carefully prior to donation.)
